As a result of our efforts at ALA we have had over 150 libraries enroll their facilities in our program. Among those we are most excited about is The Library Association of Jamaica, which is launching a literary drive. We are proud to invite our authors to be a part of this worthwhile program. The President of “Literacy for Development” welcomes our authors to visit Jamaica and take part in book signings and other scheduled events, including readings and workshops on writing and publishing. The goal is to eradicate illiteracy by providing opportunities that will engage school children between the ages of 6-14 in various reading and writing activities while at the same time showcasing the unique and vital roles of libraries and creating funding/resources for school libraries. The campaign runs from September 2011 to February 2012, with October 30-November 5 set aside as National Library Week.
Authors who would like to participate by traveling to Jamaica, or donating books to this cause, may contact kait@strategicbookmarketing.com. For more information on the program, visit http://www.liaja.org.jm/
