The hoody started out to be a simple sweatshirt with a hood that protect you from wind, rain, or snow. The characteristic design includes large frontal pockets, a hood, and (usually) a drawstring to adjust the hood opening. If they have a zipper they are sometimes called zip-up hoodies. The hoodie is a variant of the popular sweatshirt, which of course come in various shapes and sizes, from pullovers and jumpers to cardigans and hoodies.

The history went back to the Middle Ages, when only Catholic monks were the ones wearing their robes with decorative hoody as the symbol of their existence. Later on, the hoody was used again for working laborer in the 1930s. The modern hoody as we know it made its debut in the 1930s, when Champion Sportswear designed a version to keep New York warehouse laborers warm while they worked. American fashion designer Claire McCardell also helped popularize the hoody around this time. This came in handy for at least two types of people operating in hip-hop’s urban breeding ground: graffiti writers and so-called stick-up kids, or muggers. Wearing a hoodie meant you were keeping a low profile, and perhaps up to something illegal. Other subcultures adopted the hoodie, too — skaters, snowboarders and hard-core punk music fans — and so signified their status as outcasts.

The movie “Rocky” in the 1980s, introduced hooded sweatshirt as a part of sports activity. In the 1990s, hoody was a new symbol for academic activists and athletes. Skate boarders were also using this type of clothing very often, to show their street style and freedom in clothing. Since then, hoodies have been used as a part of daily clothing. Today designers have also tried new designs on hoody to make it less rebellious and also add luxurious taste in it.

Little Bay open first UK restaurant outside of London

PRLog (Press Release) – Jul 19, 2011 – Famed for its modern-European style food and extravagant decor, Little Bay has made its mark in London for excellent value, quality food.  Now, Founder Peter Ilic has brought his fine bistro menu to the seaside, for locals and tourists alike.

Brighton has an array of eateries serving Italian and Asian cuisines but Little Bay will be joining just a handful of modern-European style restaurants, none of which offer an experience quite like Little Bay.  Diners will be able to enjoy live opera music several evenings a week and locally-sourced ingredients across the menu.

“I think Little Bay is just what Brighton needs” said Peter, “we’re offering all Little Bay Brighton followers on Twitter, 50% off their total bill if they book in advance, so come and see for yourselves”.

Situated on King’s Road and adjoined to umi hotel Brighton, the restaurant is working with umi to provide dinner, bed and breakfast packages to hotel guests but is also completely open to the public.  The restaurant is ideally located for pre or post theatre dining, being just minutes from The Brighton Centre and a short walk from the Theatre Royal Brighton.  

Little Bay Brighton will be open seven days a week, including Christmas Day and is fully licensed.  Families, business guests and private groups are all welcome to dine between 7am to midnight, daily (11pm on Sundays and Bank Holidays).

There are four Little Bay restaurants in the UK already, across London: Kilburn (NW6 4BT), Farringdon (EC1R 3AL), Croydon (CR2 6PB) and Battersea (SW11 3SJ).  Sadly, the Battersea restaurant was closed due to major fire damage in January 2010. However, it is due to be re-opened in early 2012.
